When Tim reached out to me about documenting a surprise proposal I was so nervous. In the past I had always turned down proposal inquiries because I was so scared of failing or not having the ability to be in the best spot for the moment for reasons out of my control. being a major year of growth for a multitude of reasons, I knew it was time to unlock a new achievement and push myself to do something that would challenge me. When Tim told me they’d be staying at the Domaine Madeleine in Port Angeles, I knew instantly that this was going to be a growing opportunity that I had to say yes to. It was also where I photographed my very first elopement so the location was already special to me.
The day arrived and I remember my stomach being in knots running through all the what ifs, the different possible scenarios and trying to determine how I would go about getting the best possible shot. I always work myself up going into any session because I care so much and want to do my very best to make my clients happy. I have a tendency to over worry about a lot of things that are unlikely to happen which is definitely a challenge in itself to work through. I got to the venue pretty early, parked my car stressfully and wandered into the little forest area nearby to get situated while trying to look like a fellow guest. A short while later, a couple meeting the description I was given came into view as I was sweating bullets and rocking my stealthy sunglasses in the shade to inconspicuously watch them from afar. The sweet couple eventually ended their stroll on a pretty little bridge overlooking a pond and I knew that was my cue to get into the optimal position. They were so happy and infatuated with each other that Elana was completely oblivious of my assignment. Tim then got down on one knee and popped the big question and her reaction was priceless. It was perfect in every possible way. I felt so proud of myself for not only conquering my fears, but for also capturing photos that exceeded even my own expectations. This session was very rewarding for me for so many reasons. It will always hold a very special place in my heart. These two are an absolute match made in heaven and their chemistry was unparalleled. We had a blast and I feel so honored to be the one chosen to document this special moment and share this memory with you all.
